There was an online opening of the renovated public library and reading room at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Kanpur, by Revered Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, Vice President, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. He also addressed all present on the importance of reading habit and the role of books in spiritual life.
In view of the pandemic situation, there were no invitees. Only monks of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Kanpur, inhouse staff and volunteers, and a few people involved in the renovation work were present.
The public library was inaugurated in 1967 by Sri Chandra Bhanu Gupta, the then chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. And now it has been thoroughly improved and opened by revered Vice President Maharaj.
The library hall has been renovated and updated by providing better lighting, seating arrangements, stacking of books and by giving with many better facilities. We have also increased the seating capacity. More than 75 people can read now. Generally, 60 plus students come to the library during working times.
The whole building has been repaired and repainted.
In view of the present situation, however, the library will remain closed until further notice.
