Worship of Sri Ramakrishna, Mangalarati and evening Arati forms the daily activity at the temple of Sri Ramakrishna in the Ashrama. On Ekadashi days, after the evening Arati, Ram Naam Sankirtan is chanted.
We also celebrate the Jayanti (birthday) of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda as well as other major Hindu festivals like Maha Shivaratri, Sri Ramanavami, Guru Purnima, etc. The Kali Puja celebrated at the Ashram is a major event in our yearly calendar as it is celebrated traditionally on Diwali night with an image of Mother Kali.
There are regular weekly discourses by the Secretary of the Ashrama, on every Wednesday and Sunday in the prayer-hall after the evening Arati. He also instructs people by way of Guided Meditation classes every Sunday morning.
Discourses and Seminars
The Secretary Swami of the Ashrama also visits the Vivekananda Samiti at IIT, Kanpur and instructs the youths. He is invited by various organisations to participate in seminars, conferences and spiritual retreats as a speaker. Many colleges in and around Kanpur have scheduled regular classes and special functions, especially on occasions like National Youth Day, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda.
Bhakta Sammelans and other Sammelans
Devotees come regularly to the Ashram and seek spiritual counsel. But for many of the devotees who are busy with their daily jobs and cannot come regularly, the Ashrama conducts a devotees’ meet – Bhakta Sammelan, where devotees gather and spend most of the day listening to discourses, meditation sessions, question-answer sessions etc. Senior monks of the Order also visit the Ashram for these meets and provide spiritual discourses.
In addition to the devotees, special meetings like the Doctors’ Meet, Teachers’ Meet etc, are regularly held in the Ashrama.
